How OH Floors Researches Ohio Flooring Costs
This site publishes cost information and installation guidance for Ohio. It is worth being explicit about where the numbers come from and what they are not.
Where the housing figures come from
Every city page opens on that city’s own housing data — median year built, share of the stock
predating 1940, total housing units — taken from the American Community Survey 2024 5-year
estimates, tables B25035, B25034 and B01003. They are that city’s figures, not a state average
applied to nine pages. Columbus and Cleveland differ by thirty-nine years at the median, and a
state average would hide exactly the thing that matters.
Where the cost ranges come from
The installed ranges are published national and regional price bands for materials and labour,
presented as ranges rather than as a single number because a single number would be false
precision. The estimator applies a regional multiplier to labour only — material is a
national commodity and costs about the same in Youngstown as in Columbus.
Everything on this site is a planning estimate. It is not a quote, nobody has seen your house,
and the difference between an estimate and a quote is a person standing in the room.

The regulatory material
Ohio’s contractor registration requirement changed on 1 January 2026 under HB 614, and the
description on this site reflects the requirements as published by the Ohio Construction Industry
Licensing Board. Rules change; the building department in your municipality is the authority for
your specific job, and they answer the phone.
